The Lembert Suture is an inverting suture technique. The needle is inserted lateral to the incised wound edge running perpendicular to it. However the needle then exits again lateral to the incised wound edge, but closer to it. Of note, the needle does not exit at the interior of the wound at all. On the contralateral wound edge, the same procedure is repeated with the needle being inserted and then exiting again lateral to the wound.
A net effect of this, is that you see a loop of suture moving over the top of the incised wound edge. When the suture is pulled taut and tied you will be able to see the dramatic inversion of the suture line which is the goal of this technique.
