Hello, and thank you so much for joining our Society Street event today. I am just going to wait a few moments while everyone logs in to the event and gets settled. I know that it can take a couple of minutes, sometimes. As you log in, you should be able to see -- on the right hand side of the screen -- a chat feature. You will need to input your name and then you will be able to participate by chatting to the speakers and other attendees.
Please do free to comment and ask questions as we go along. We hope that there will be lots of engagement as we go. So once again, thank you for joining us at our July event. When we were putting together this event, a theme that we kept coming back to was one of Hybrid events. Given the state of the world and the fact, we do not appear to be getting back to what life was like before COVID-19,
we thought this was a fitting topic to explore. We know that there's lots of questions and lots of challenges in this new area of hybrid events. So today we have gathered a group of people together from the scholarly communication space who are all tackling this issue one way or another. We hope you will find our speakers insightful and interesting and challenging. We would love it if you could join us all afterwards for a zoom meeting for further conversations and a Q&A. The zoom link will pop up at the end of the session.
You will be able to click on it and just jump straight into the meeting with us. Society Street has been made possible thanks to the support and generosity of our sponsors and our conference partners, so we would like to thank those very much. This includes Wiley and Elsevier, Atypon, Impact Science, Consort, Research Square, Cadmore Media and Renew Consultants.
We would like to thank them for their continued support. So for those who are just joining us, you should see on the right hand side of the screen a chat feature. Please provide your name in order to be able to participate in the chat with the speakers and all the other attendees. Please also do follow us on Twitter and feel free to tweet using the hashtag Society Street 2021.
We will also try and tweet as we go along for the event today. At the end of the presentation, as I mentioned before, there will be a Zoom meeting for those with further questions, and for those who wish to carry on the conversation. We do know that these events are quite well attended and they can be very lively and it just allows some interaction after sitting and listening to the presentations. I'm now going to hand over to our speakers.
We've changed the running order of this event slightly. So I'm going to first hand over to Sam Burrell who is going to chair a discussion on the topic of hybrid events, which we think, as we said, is the next big challenge for societies. Joining Sam today are Laura Sawyer, Executive Director of the International Communications Association. We have Theresa Crossley, who is the Head of Education at the British Society of Haematology and Violaine Iglesias, who is the CEO of Cadmore Media.
So without further ado, I'll hand over to Sam to kick off that discussion. I very much hope you enjoy it. Thank you.
