SPEAKER: Hello, and welcome to RegMedNet. This month, in association with Sexton Biotechnologies, we are pitting the cryogenic containment for cell and gene therapies in focus. Cryogenic containers are essential for cell and gene therapies as they allow for the ability to preserve, store, and transport cell and gene products without modification to their genetic or cellular contents. Several challenges are presented by current cryogenic containers, and in particular cryo bags.
SPEAKER: These challenges include-- the generation of particulate matter, difficulties in the removal of air, susceptibility to fracture, and loss of the product. And finally, difficulty scaling up for large scale manufacturing. In line with the expanding landscape and increasing complexity of cell and gene therapies, there is an urgent need to develop durable, reliable, industry-specific containers that can address these challenges.
SPEAKER: Consistency is a core solution to these challenges. Working with the same container from early-stage trials all the way through to full-scale manufacturing. By working with the same container throughout the development process, considerations such as the integration of emerging fill and finish technologies and a container's compatibility with the requirements of downstream storage and transport are taken into account from the beginning.
SPEAKER: This leads to a more efficient, safe, and cost-effective final manufacturing process. Larger, more rigid containers that can fulfill the requirements of this approach could represent one tool to help deliver this solution.
